A word game with a roguelike heart. The beasts in the margins of an old illuminated manuscript (snail knights, killer rabbits, a bagpipe-playing bear) have climbed onto the page and are eating the words. Spell words to ink them back, chapter by chapter, all the way to the dragon who hoards every word ever written.
Spell, strike, repeat
Swipe or tap touching letters on a 5×5 board. Every word strikes the beast for points × multiplier. Used tiles vanish, the letters above fall, and new ones drop in from your satchel, so every word sets up the next.
Rare words hit harder
Every word has a rarity, from common to arcane. Know a word nobody else would think of? It's worth more. Long words and rare words do the big damage.
Build your run
Between pages, spend gold in the Scriptorium: • 44 charms that change how words score: straight lines, chains, palindromes, corners, rare words, letters in alphabetical order and more • Inks for your tiles: gold leaf, vermilion, lapis, glass • Special tiles: wilds, QU, TH, ING • Lore that levels up your favourite word lengths Charms stack left to right, and the right order can multiply a word's score many times over.
Beasts with tricks
Choose your fight on every page: a plain beast, or a fierce one that pays a reward. Margin beasts chew tiles, shuffle the board and turn letters to stone. Ten bosses bend the rules: the Snail Knight ignores short words, the Owl Abbot silences every vowel, the Siren makes each word start where the last one ended.
A hand-painted manuscript
Gold leaf, lapis and vermilion: every beast, charm and ink is painted like a medieval manuscript come to life.
Weeks of goals
Unlock new charms and starting satchels through milestones, fill your Codex and Bestiary, chase your best word, and try the daily folio: the same pages for everyone, once a day.
